Timber pavilions & outdoor rooms in Woodbridge

Woodbridge

Timber work that
anchors the yard.

A lot of our Woodbridge work has centred on substantial covered structures — the kind that turn a back garden into a room you use rather than look at. Heavy timber posts, exposed rafter tails, cedar-clad ceilings and gabled king-post trusses, with full outdoor kitchens and stone fireplaces beneath them.

The carpentry is the point. In our Woodbridge projects it lives in the beam joinery and knee braces holding the composition together, in the tongue-and-groove ceilings, and in the framed millwork surrounds around the fireplaces.

Why Saywell Carpentry Co.

Considered design.
Custom built.

We build custom — not from a catalogue. Every project is designed around your home, your site, and the way you actually want to live in the space.

01

Custom design, not a kit.

Nothing here is ordered from a catalogue or assembled from a stock plan. Every structure is drawn for your home, your grade, and your sightlines — so it looks like it was always meant to be there.

02

Built by hand, on site.

The carpentry is cut and fitted by hand rather than dropped in prefabricated. That's what you're looking at in the joinery, the mitres, and the way the cladding lines carry across a whole elevation.

03

Design and build under one roof.

We take a project from the first on-site conversation through drawings, permits, framing, and final finish. One team accountable for the whole thing — no gaps between trades to fall through.

04

A limited number of projects.

We deliberately take on only a few builds each year so Eric stays personally involved from footing to final beam. You are not handed off to a crew you have never met.

05

Materials chosen to last.

Western red cedar, white oak, structural timber, and finish-grade stock selected for how they weather and age through Ontario's seasons — not for what is cheapest to buy this month.

06

Indoor-caliber finish, outdoors.

Coffered ceilings, panelled walls, and built-in millwork executed to interior standards in structures that live outside. That is the difference between a shed and a room.

07

We work with your team.

Architects, designers, landscape crews, and pool builders — we coordinate alongside the people already on your project rather than working around them.

08

A clean site, and a clean finish.

We walk the finished space with you and leave the site as though we were never there. The only thing left behind is the work itself.

Pool Houses & Cabanas

Poolside Cabana Pavilion

A freestanding cabana anchors this backyard, its low-slung flat roof and cedar tongue-and-groove ceiling framing a fully finished outdoor entertaining lounge. Vertical batten cladding in charcoal and warm cedar plays against large-format slate, a linear fireplace surround, and custom laser-cut screens that filter the evening light — a covered space built as a true four-season poolside room.

Outdoor Living

Timber Pavilion & Outdoor Kitchen

A generous freestanding pavilion frames this backyard retreat, its dark-stained timber posts and exposed rafter tails carrying a cedar-clad ceiling that glows against a black hip roof. Beneath it sit a full outdoor kitchen with masonry counters, a wood-fired oven, and a coursed-stone fireplace — the carpentry living in the precise beam joinery and knee braces that hold the whole composition together.

Outdoor Living

Covered Timber Pavilion

This backyard retreat centers on a heavy-timber covered structure with an exposed cedar rafter ceiling, chunky posts, and a gabled king-post truss sheltering a full outdoor lounge. A raised deck with wraparound bench-seat steps leads up to a floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace with a framed millwork surround, while low-voltage lighting and lit risers carry the space well into the evening.

Slat-Clad Poolside Cabana

A freestanding cedar slat-clad cabana anchors this poolside retreat, paired with a covered outdoor kitchen and a multi-level bluestone terrace. Vertical wood cladding wraps the cabana, the kitchen island, and the floating stair risers in a single precise rhythm, while a slatted timber ceiling, laser-cut privacy screens, and concealed lighting turn the covered kitchen into a true year-round outdoor room.

How We Work

The Process

Every Woodbridge project follows the same four steps, from first site visit to final walkthrough.

01

Consultation

We begin on site, listening. How you want to live in the space, the way the light moves, the details worth getting right — this is where the project takes shape.

02

Design

We develop detailed drawings, material selections, and a clear quote, working alongside your architect, designer, and trades. Nothing moves forward until every detail is right.

03

Build

We build with precision and care, much of it cut and fitted by hand. A limited number of projects each year means Eric stays personally involved from footing to final finish.

04

Completion

We walk the finished space with you and clean the site as though we were never there — leaving only the work, and a project built to last.

Common Questions

Custom Carpentry Questions —
Answered.

Questions we are asked most by homeowners in Woodbridge.

What is involved in a heavy-timber pavilion?

Proper footings, structural timber posts and trusses, a framed and shingled or standing-seam roof, and a finished ceiling — usually tongue-and-groove cedar. It is a permanent building, not a shade structure, and it is engineered and permitted as one.

Can you build a pavilion in an existing landscaped yard?

Yes, and most of ours are. We plan access and protection for existing pools, decking, hardscape and planting before we start, and coordinate with your landscape contractor so the site is properly restored at the end.

Can you include an outdoor kitchen and fireplace?

Yes. We have built masonry counters, stainless grills, wood-fired ovens and coursed-stone fireplaces integrated into pavilions from the design stage, with the services and structure planned around them.

Do you handle the City of Vaughan permit process?

Yes — Woodbridge falls under the City of Vaughan. We prepare the drawings and manage the permit application as part of the build, and confirm your lot's zoning and setbacks before design is finalised.
