King City
Room to build
something considered.
King City properties tend to have the one thing most projects need and rarely get: space. That makes it the right place for a proper freestanding cabana, a full outdoor kitchen, or a pavilion that sits away from the house and becomes its own destination in the yard.
Our slat-clad poolside cabana in King City is a good example — a freestanding cedar structure paired with a covered outdoor kitchen and a multi-level bluestone terrace, with vertical cladding carried across the cabana, the kitchen island and the floating stair risers in one rhythm.
Why Saywell Carpentry Co.
Considered design.
Custom built.
We build custom — not from a catalogue. Every project is designed around your home, your site, and the way you actually want to live in the space.
Custom design, not a kit.
Nothing here is ordered from a catalogue or assembled from a stock plan. Every structure is drawn for your home, your grade, and your sightlines — so it looks like it was always meant to be there.
Built by hand, on site.
The carpentry is cut and fitted by hand rather than dropped in prefabricated. That's what you're looking at in the joinery, the mitres, and the way the cladding lines carry across a whole elevation.
Design and build under one roof.
We take a project from the first on-site conversation through drawings, permits, framing, and final finish. One team accountable for the whole thing — no gaps between trades to fall through.
A limited number of projects.
We deliberately take on only a few builds each year so Eric stays personally involved from footing to final beam. You are not handed off to a crew you have never met.
Materials chosen to last.
Western red cedar, white oak, structural timber, and finish-grade stock selected for how they weather and age through Ontario's seasons — not for what is cheapest to buy this month.
Indoor-caliber finish, outdoors.
Coffered ceilings, panelled walls, and built-in millwork executed to interior standards in structures that live outside. That is the difference between a shed and a room.
We work with your team.
Architects, designers, landscape crews, and pool builders — we coordinate alongside the people already on your project rather than working around them.
A clean site, and a clean finish.
We walk the finished space with you and leave the site as though we were never there. The only thing left behind is the work itself.

Pool Houses & Cabanas
Slat-Clad Poolside Cabana
A freestanding cedar slat-clad cabana anchors this poolside retreat, paired with a covered outdoor kitchen and a multi-level bluestone terrace. Vertical wood cladding wraps the cabana, the kitchen island, and the floating stair risers in a single precise rhythm, while a slatted timber ceiling, laser-cut privacy screens, and concealed lighting turn the covered kitchen into a true year-round outdoor room.

Blackened Cedar Poolside Retreat
Charcoal-stained heavy timber pergolas frame this poolside terrace, their natural cedar cross-rafters glowing under integrated uplighting against horizontal privacy screens. A covered porch pairs a tongue-and-groove cedar ceiling with a slatted feature wall, a linear fireplace, and a warm timber mantel, tying a dining pavilion, outdoor kitchen, porch swing, and detached studio into one cohesive backyard retreat.

Twin-Pavilion Outdoor Retreat
Two mirrored timber pavilions anchor this backyard, each built with heavy cedar posts on crowned bases and warm tongue-and-groove ceilings lit by recessed pot lights. One frames an outdoor lounge around a stone-clad linear fireplace with a floating mantel; the other shelters a full dining terrace, all tied together by a raised deck with cable-rail steps, integrated riser lighting, and laser-cut privacy screens.

Poolside Cabana Pavilion
A freestanding cabana anchors this backyard, its low-slung flat roof and cedar tongue-and-groove ceiling framing a fully finished outdoor entertaining lounge. Vertical batten cladding in charcoal and warm cedar plays against large-format slate, a linear fireplace surround, and custom laser-cut screens that filter the evening light — a covered space built as a true four-season poolside room.

The Process
Every King City project follows the same four steps, from first site visit to final walkthrough.
01
Consultation
We begin on site, listening. How you want to live in the space, the way the light moves, the details worth getting right — this is where the project takes shape.
02
Design
We develop detailed drawings, material selections, and a clear quote, working alongside your architect, designer, and trades. Nothing moves forward until every detail is right.
03
Build
We build with precision and care, much of it cut and fitted by hand. A limited number of projects each year means Eric stays personally involved from footing to final finish.
04
Completion
We walk the finished space with you and clean the site as though we were never there — leaving only the work, and a project built to last.

Common Questions
Custom Carpentry Questions —
Answered.
Questions we are asked most by homeowners in King City.
Do you build on larger King Township properties?
Yes. Larger lots suit the work well — freestanding cabanas, pavilions set away from the house, and outdoor kitchens that would feel cramped on a smaller property. We build across King City, King Township, Nobleton and Schomberg.
Do King City properties have different permit requirements?
They can. King Township has its own zoning, and properties on well and septic, near conservation land, or within the Oak Ridges Moraine carry additional considerations. We confirm what applies to your specific lot before design begins, and manage the approvals as part of the build.
Can you build a cabana at the same time as our pool?
That is often the best sequence — one round of excavation and site disruption rather than two, with services trenched once. We coordinate directly with your pool builder and landscape contractor to phase the work.
Do you take on interior finish carpentry as well?
Yes — panelling, coffered ceilings, custom trim, stairs and built-ins, either as part of a larger project or on its own. It is the same finish work you see in our cabana interiors, applied inside the house.
