Vaughan
Built for the way
Vaughan homes live.
Vaughan homes are generous, and the yards behind them are usually the least resolved part of the property. The projects that make the biggest difference are the ones that extend the house properly — a covered terrace off the kitchen, a cabana that makes the pool worth using, an addition that reads as though it was always part of the original build.
We work across Vaughan and the surrounding York Region communities on exactly that kind of work, from coffered-ceiling cabanas and cedar covered terraces to multi-tiered ravine decks and garden pavilions.
Why Saywell Carpentry Co.
Considered design.
Custom built.
We build custom — not from a catalogue. Every project is designed around your home, your site, and the way you actually want to live in the space.
Custom design, not a kit.
Nothing here is ordered from a catalogue or assembled from a stock plan. Every structure is drawn for your home, your grade, and your sightlines — so it looks like it was always meant to be there.
Built by hand, on site.
The carpentry is cut and fitted by hand rather than dropped in prefabricated. That's what you're looking at in the joinery, the mitres, and the way the cladding lines carry across a whole elevation.
Design and build under one roof.
We take a project from the first on-site conversation through drawings, permits, framing, and final finish. One team accountable for the whole thing — no gaps between trades to fall through.
A limited number of projects.
We deliberately take on only a few builds each year so Eric stays personally involved from footing to final beam. You are not handed off to a crew you have never met.
Materials chosen to last.
Western red cedar, white oak, structural timber, and finish-grade stock selected for how they weather and age through Ontario's seasons — not for what is cheapest to buy this month.
Indoor-caliber finish, outdoors.
Coffered ceilings, panelled walls, and built-in millwork executed to interior standards in structures that live outside. That is the difference between a shed and a room.
We work with your team.
Architects, designers, landscape crews, and pool builders — we coordinate alongside the people already on your project rather than working around them.
A clean site, and a clean finish.
We walk the finished space with you and leave the site as though we were never there. The only thing left behind is the work itself.

Pool Houses & Cabanas
Coffered-Ceiling Poolside Cabana
This poolside cabana pairs the warmth of custom carpentry with the openness of outdoor living, its exterior clad in fine vertical cedar slats that wrap seamlessly into the sheltered lounge. Overhead, a crisp white coffered ceiling frames the space, while a full-height raised-panel wall carries the fireplace and television between built-in millwork surrounds — indoor-caliber finish work under an open-air pavilion.

Cedar Covered Terrace
A roofed outdoor living space defined by its warm tongue-and-groove cedar ceiling and heavy timber posts, wrapped around a brick and natural-stone home. Beneath it sits a fully built outdoor kitchen with a stainless grill, wood-fired pizza oven, and stone counter, framed by custom louvered cedar screens and a laser-cut feature panel that carry the craftsmanship out into the landscaped yard.

Ravine Deck & Garden Pavilion
This backyard transformation layers a multi-tiered composite deck, a built-in slat-clad outdoor kitchen, and a detached cedar-toned garden pavilion into a private ravine setting. Warm wood-grain decking, mitered cladding, and frameless glass railings frame the treeline, while custom cedar privacy fencing, stone-capped retaining walls, and clean-lined steps tie the terrace and pavilion into one cohesive outdoor room.

Slat-Clad Poolside Cabana
A freestanding cedar slat-clad cabana anchors this poolside retreat, paired with a covered outdoor kitchen and a multi-level bluestone terrace. Vertical wood cladding wraps the cabana, the kitchen island, and the floating stair risers in a single precise rhythm, while a slatted timber ceiling, laser-cut privacy screens, and concealed lighting turn the covered kitchen into a true year-round outdoor room.

The Process
Every Vaughan project follows the same four steps, from the first on-site conversation to the final walkthrough — so you always know what is happening and why.
01
Consultation
We begin on site, listening. How you want to live in the space, the way the light moves, the details worth getting right — this is where the project takes shape.
02
Design
We develop detailed drawings, material selections, and a clear quote, working alongside your architect, designer, and trades. Nothing moves forward until every detail is right.
03
Build
We build with precision and care, much of it cut and fitted by hand. A limited number of projects each year means Eric stays personally involved from footing to final finish.
04
Completion
We walk the finished space with you and clean the site as though we were never there — leaving only the work, and a project built to last.

Common Questions
Custom Carpentry Questions —
Answered.
Questions we are asked most by homeowners in Vaughan.
Do you work throughout Vaughan?
Yes — across Vaughan proper and the surrounding communities including Kleinburg, Maple, Woodbridge, Concord and Thornhill, as well as King City and North Toronto. We have completed projects in most of them.
Do you handle permits and drawings in Vaughan?
Yes. We prepare the drawings and manage the City of Vaughan permit process as part of the build, and we will tell you early what your specific lot, zoning and setbacks allow before you commit to a design.
Can you work alongside our architect or designer?
Regularly. A good portion of our work runs alongside an architect, interior designer, landscape contractor or pool builder already engaged on the project. We coordinate with them rather than around them.
How far ahead should we be planning?
For a build you want finished next summer, the conversation should start the year before. Design, material selection and permits take time, and the best outdoor projects are permitted over the winter so construction begins as soon as the ground allows.
